Aston Villa defender Clement Lenglet has lavished praise on the impact Unai Emery has made on the club and believes he is one of the best coaches in the world.

The Villans are sitting fourth in the Premier League table and are on line to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Emery’s side are also gunning for European success this term as they are in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.

Lenglet, who joined the club on loan from Barcelona last summer, has been a key player for Aston Villa in the second half of the season.

The Frenchman admitted that Emery’s decision to call him was key in his thinking when he accepted the offer from the Midlands club.

The defender stressed that Emery is one of the best in the world and has completely transformed the club.

He pointed out that Aston Villa are fighting for Champions League football this season while they were in the bottom half of the table when Emery arrived.

Lenglet told Sky Italia: “The fact that Emery called me was important in me accepting the offer.

“He is very competitive and he has great experience. He built a great project last year and we follow it every day.

“The club are very happy with his work and he is one of the best coaches in the world.

“Competing in the Premier League is never easy; when he arrived, Aston Villa were 16th and now we are fighting for the Champions League.

“His impact has been magnificent.”

Aston Villa have a seven-point lead over Tottenham Hotspur, but they have played two more games than the north London side.
