Jo Tessem is of the view that Southampton stars Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Jan Bednarek always stay close to each other in the Saints defence and pointed out that the defensive duo are strong at winning balls.

Harwood-Bellis and Bednarek have been regulars in Southampton’s defence this season and have partnered each other in 24 league games so far in the ongoing campaign.

On Friday, they helped Southampton secure a 2-0 victory over promotion-chasing West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

Tessem pointed out that the centre-back duo always stays close to each other on the field and added that Bednarek and Harwood-Bellis are always aware of each other’s positions.

The ex-Southampton star also stated that they both are good at winning balls through the middle of the pitch and pointed out that the Saints duo picks up their team-mates while clearing the ball.

“They are always tight to each other, they are always in between, they always seem to be very clear where each other is on the pitch”, Tessem said on BBC Radio Solent.

“Bednarek is always on the left side and Harwood-Bellis is always that perfect distance away from him.

He kind of scoops in behind him and helps him if he needs to.

“They are so strong in the middle, winning the ball, but the other thing they do really well is when they clear it, they clear it to a Southampton player, which is so important, not just kicking it away but clearing it to a player.”

Bednarek and Harwood-Bellis have managed to help Southampton keep ten clean sheets while playing together in Russell Martin’s defence.
