Liverpool have joined Juventus and Arsenal in holding an interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s young defender Mamadou Sakho. The 20-year-old defender, who has represented France at Under-16, 17, 18, 19, 21 and senior levels, is considered a real prospect and has earned comparisons with a young Lilian Thuram.

A product of the smaller Paris FC, before being snapped up by Paris Saint-Germain, Sakho had struggled to stay in line at the club’s academy and was threatened with expulsion. However, the youngster knuckled down and worked at his game, seeing the fruits of his labours quickly as he rapidly progressed through the club’s ranks.

Sakho is under contract with the Ligue 1 giants until 2012, although Paris Saint-Germain are keen to extend that and see off interest in the defender. All three sides however, are believed to be willing to make substantial offers to tempt the French side in to parting with Sakho.
