Ajax have settled on their asking price for goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg – €12M.

Several clubs, including Manchester United and Roma, have been linked with a swoop for the Holland international in the last few months, though United turned to Spanish shot-stopper David de Gea, who is expected to complete a move to Old Trafford.

Even so, there is set to be serious interest in the 29-year-old over the summer months, especially at an affordable €12M.

Ajax won last season’s Eredivisie title, ending a wait of seven years without the trophy, but are still willing to cash in on Stekelenburg if his asking price is met.

The reason for this is surely the Amsterdam club’s faith in Stekelenburg’s understudy Kenneth Vermeer. The 25-year-old Ajax youth product filled in for Stekelenburg when the 29-year-old was injured last season, and excelled between the sticks.
