Marseille are pondering the possibility of bringing Didier Drogba back to the club from Chelsea.

Drogba played at the Stade Velodrome until moving to Stamford Bridge in 2004, with the English side shelling out £24M for his services. The striker has always retained a soft spot for the French club however, and has dreamt about ending his career on the French south coast.

And this is a dream Marseille would like to help come true for Drogba, but there remains a question mark over whether the Ligue 1 side can afford the Ivory Coast forward’s salary.

"The question is whether in terms of salary [we could sign him]", admitted president Vincent Labrune to La Provence.

"I do not mean the transfer fee, Marseille have the means to pay Didier Drogba for four years, but we cannot afford 11 Didier Drogbas."

And this left Labrune speculating that the move could come off, but only if Didier Deschamps’ side moved some high earners off their wage bill.

"So, it’s possible, but only in the case of departures."
