Midfield enforcer Alou Diarra has spoken of his delight at finally signing for Marseille.

The 29-year-old has arrived at the Stade Velodrome from Bordeaux for a fee around the €5M mark and is expected to add real steal to Didier Deschamps’ midfield.

And Diarra instantly pointed to the need "to win trophies and get the championship" as he put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

"My destiny want to come to Marseille and I want to thank their leaders for giving me their trust", said the Frenchman.

"This is a historic club.

"OM had everything in place to attract me."

Diarra will be expected to play a big part in Marseille’s attempt to win back the Ligue 1 crown next season. Champions in 2009/10, they were dethroned by Lille last season.
