The 2011 Copa America final will be contested by Uruguay and Paraguay after the latter saw off Venezuela on penalties last night.

A tense 120 minutes of football that was not of the highest quality, perhaps because both sides were well aware of what was at stake, ended 0-0 and penalties were needed to settle the contest

The shoot-out ended 5-3 in favour of the Paraguayans with Dario Veron netting the final spot-kick.

Now Paraguay will meet Uruguay to contest the Copa America final on Sunday.

A day earlier Peru will play Venezuela in the tournament’s third-place playoff.
