Jose Mourinho has given his backing to French striker Karim Benzema, stating he believes the hitman has what it takes to record a fine season in the legendary white shirt.

Benzema has continued to be linked with the Bernabeu exit door, despite coach and player both stating their determination that he will turn out for Real Madrid in 2011/12.

Mourinho has again entered the fray to put a stop to such talk, declaring that he can see clear improvement in the France international.

"Karim is playing football today as I see it", said Mourinho.

"He has everything to enjoy a great season.

"He is much, much better than he was at this time last year."

And Benzema himself echoed Mourinho’s words, stating he can see the effect of a full pre-season of hard graft.

"I worked hard this summer and I feel better", said Benzema.
