Danish defender Simon Kjaer has headed back to Italy, swapping Wolfsburg for Roma.

Kjaer had turned out for Palermo in Serie A between 2008 and 2010 before joining Wolfsburg last summer.

But despite making 32 Bundesliga appearances for the Wolves last season, and helping the side to successfully avoid relegation from Germany’s top flight, the 22-year-old has jumped at the chance to return to Italy.

Roma have taken the Danish centre back on a season-long loan at a cost of €2M and retain an option to make the move permanent for a further fee of €8M.

If Kjaer joins the Giallrossi on a permanent basis therefore, Wolfsburg will net €10M from his sale.

Kjaer has clocked up 16 caps for Denmark and is considered one of the most promising defenders in the game.
