Joe Cole has revealed that he was "hurt" at how his spell at Liverpool turned out, but also expressed his delight at signing for Lille.
The midfielder has signed for the French champions on a one-year loan deal after struggling to make an impact at Anfield.
Cole also snubbed a late bid from Aston Villa to join Rudi Garcia’s men and explained that the challenge of playing in another country was too good to turn down.
"I like the challenge", said Cole.
"I like continental football. It’s exciting for me and I love challenges.
"It’s a different playing style. I am a winner."
And the former Chelsea star admitted that failing to make his mark at Liverpool had caused him a great deal of hurt.
"It did not work at Liverpool for several reasons and it hurt me.
"I’m here to bring success to Lille."
