Celtic will know before the European Championship if a club are triggering the release clause of Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, who the Bhoys hold a sell-on clause in.
Frimpong is shining at the Bundesliga outfit and has been linked with a host of sides, including Manchester United.
The Premier League giants are tracking several right-backs who could play in a more attacking system next season.
Celtic are due a 30 per cent cut from Leverkusen selling Frimpong, something which could give the Bhoys a good boost this summer.
The defender has a €40m release clause in his contract, but according to German magazine Sport Bild (via Fussball Transfers), it is not valid for the entire summer.
If a club are to buy Frimpong for that figure they will have to trigger the clause before the start of the European Championship.
The release clause will only remain valid until the tournament starts in Germany this summer.
As a result, Celtic now have a definite timeframe to find out whether Frimpong will be sold for his release clause.
He could still leave after the clause has expired, but it may be likely that if a team want to sign him they look to take advantage of the clause.
