Former Rangers star Cammy Bell has insisted that Todd Cantwell’s return to the squad is a huge boost for the Gers even if he does not believe the midfielder will start.
Cantwell missed the last five games in all competitions for Rangers due to a hamstring injury but he returned to training with the squad on Wednesday.
The midfielder is now in line to be in the squad to take Benfica in the second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie at Ibrox tonight.
A 2-2 draw in Portugal last week has put the tie in balance ahead of the return leg and Bell insisted that Cantwell’s return is a huge boost for Rangers ahead of the big game.
The former Rangers star conceded that the midfielder might not be fit enough to start, but his presence on the bench will be a massive option to bring on if Rangers need a spark.
Bell said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard: “I think he is a great option to have and you’d always want him in the squad.
“I don’t think he will play [from the start].
“But if you have got him on the bench and you need that little bit of spark, he can bring that.”
Rangers will hope to get one more big European scalp and beat Benfica tonight to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
