Chelsea and Marseille have not yet reached an agreement over right-back Cesar Azpilicueta.
Roberto Di Matteo’s Champions League winners are firm fans of Azpilicueta, who admitted earlier this summer that he needs to leave the Stade Velodrome to further his international ambitions.
The Spaniard would welcome a switch to Stamford Bridge, but the agreement of a price between the two clubs is not a straightforward matter.
At present Marseille are thought to have slapped a €10M asking price on the Spaniard’s head, while Chelsea are believed ready to pay around €8M – €2M short.
The 22-year-old will not be consumed by transfer talk now though, with competing in the London Olympics for Spain his primary focus; the defender is La Roja’s captain.
It also remains to be seen just how much new Marseille coach Elie Baup wants to keep Azpilicueta at the Stade Velodrome.
With the club out of next season’s Champions League though, the French giants well understand Azpilicueta’s desire to test himself on a bigger stage.
