Manchester United have confirmed that left-back Patrice Evra has extended his contract at the club.

Evra's deal had been reaching its conclusion this summer and there had been much speculation that he could quit Old Trafford in search of pastures new.

The French left-back, who has been a target for a number of sides, including Italian giants Inter, continues his Old Trafford adventure though.

Evra, who joined the club in 2006 from Monaco, will remain for at least one season of football under new Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, who takes charge after the World Cup.
