Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admits that he did revert to players he knew from last season this evening, in the Reds' 2-2 draw against Ludogorets in the Champions League.

Rodgers, who picked Kolo Toure in defence and Lucas Leiva in midfield, saw his men go behind in just the 3rd minute of the match after goalkeeper Simon Mignolet spilled a shot.

But Liverpool struck back through Rickie Lambert (8th minute) and Jordan Henderson (37th minute) to lead 2-1.

Liverpool though started to drop deeper and deeper in the second half and were eventually punished when Ludogorets took advantage of poor defending to draw level in the 88th minute.

And 2-2 was how it ended in Bulgaria.

Rodgers was quickly asked whether he picked last season's players, ahead of summer signings, because he knew what he would get.

He told Sky Sports: "It was certainly players that I know what they're capable of.

"Lucas coming into the team, the last game he played in was Real Madrid and he was outstanding in that.

"There were obviously players I know more about. In time the new players will adapt to that."

And the Liverpool boss was happy with his side's performance in Bulgaria.

"Wonderful character tonight, to go a goal behind in this competition, so early, you really need a team that's together."
