Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu admits that Pedro Rodriguez does not play on a regular basis, but insists he remains an important figure at the Camp Nou.

Pedro has been strongly linked with a move to Louis van Gaal's Manchester United side, while Liverpool have also been credited with holding an interest in the Spain international forward.

And Pedro has been tipped to be ready to leave the Camp Nou due to a lack of playing time with Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar all ahead of him in the pecking order.

But he has a firm fan in Bartomeu, who views him as an important part of the furniture at Barcelona.

The president said in an interview with Barca TV: "Pedro renewed his contract recently.

"I sometimes read that he plays little, that's true. But he is part of the club's history.

"He was involved in the first treble and now in the second."

Pedro is currently with Barcelona on their pre-season tour of the United States. The Blaugrana lost their last tour match, going down 3-1 against the forward's chief suitors Manchester United.

The Spaniard has a buy-out clause of €30m in his contract with the reigning European champions, a sum well within reach for the Premier League sides interested in snapping him up during the summer transfer window.
