Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is pushing into the lead in the race to become the new Celtic boss, according to BBC Scotland.

Rodgers held talks for a number of hours with Celtic officials earlier today and the Bhoys are hopeful of making an appointment within the next five days.

Celtic are determined not to be rushed in appointing a new manager, however they are also keen to get a new man in quickly in order that the new boss can plan for their Champions League campaign.

Rodgers has been out of work since being sacked by Liverpool in October last year. He spent in excess of £100m in the summer of 2014, but could only lead the Reds to a finish of sixth.

Celtic are looking for a new manager after parting ways with Ronny Deila at the end of this season; the Norwegian delivered the Scottish Premiership title during both of his years at the club.
