Rangers new boy Matt Gilks has spoken ecstatically about the "fantastic" Ibrox atmosphere and believes that it is a stadium where every player loves to play.

The Gers confirmed the signing of the 34-year-old on a free transfer on Friday, with the veteran custodian putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.

Gilks, who left Burnley at the end of last season, insists that it was a dream opportunity for him, one that was very difficult to ignore.

Speaking about the atmosphere that he is set to witness day in and day out at Ibrox, Gilks said that it is something that he had always aspired to be part of.

Recollecting his last visit to Ibrox last summer for a pre-season friendly, which his former side Burnley won 1-0, the goalkeeper said that irrespective of the result, to be part of the famous Ibrox atmosphere was something unique for him and now that he is at the club he will want to do it more often.

“You walk in the front door and the history of the club hits you, it’s a fantastic stadium", Gilks told his club's official website.

“I think we beat you 1-0 on that night, but if I wasn’t here now I would still be proud to say I played at Ibrox, be it a pre-season friendly.

“It doesn’t matter, it’s one of those grounds that I think you aspire to play at and a club to play for like Rangers.”
