Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has stressed the importance of adding a couple of key players to his squad in this month's transfer window in order to deal with the wear and tear of the season.

With Leeds in the thick of the promotion chase in the Championship, the club are expected to make additions to their squad to boost their chances in the second half of the season.

While fifth in the league table, Leeds are looking short in their defensive resources ahead of Friday night’s big game against Derby County because of suspensions and injuries.

Monk feels his side have done well thus far to cope with the demands of the season, but believes it is important they receive the required boost in the window in terms of fresh faces.

He believes a couple of new players in his squad will help his side to navigate the second half of the season better.

The Leeds boss told LUTV: “You have to deal with situations that come throughout the season, acouple of injuries here and there and maybe suspensions – we have managed to cope with it well enough throughout the season so far.

“But that’s why in January adding those couple of bodies, we have already talked about internally, is important so we can come through these types of situations stronger.

“And able to utilise the group as much as we can; so we have coped well enough so far, we have make sure that we cope throughout the rest of the season.

“That’s why in January we can help our situation.”

Leeds are not looking to offload players from Monk’s first team squad in January for the time being.
