West Ham United are poised to table a bid for Besiktas defensive midfielder Gary Medel and are keen to take him to England in January.

Manuel Pellegrini wants to continue his heavy spending in the winter transfer window after buying players for close to £100m last summer at West Ham.

The Chilean wants to add bite to his midfielder in January and has reportedly identified his compatriot Medel as the player he wants to add to his squad next month.

West Ham have been probing the possibility of signing him and it has been claimed that they are now prepared to make a concrete offer for the former Cardiff City man.

According to Turkish daily Milliyet, the Hammers are ready to table a bid worth £5m for the 31-year-old midfielder in order to convince Besiktas to sell him in January.

The east London club are confident that they will be able to agree on a fee with the Turkish giants soon and get the deal over the line.

Medel is also not expected to find it tough to get a work permit in England as he has already played in the Premier League and has been a regular for Chile.

With Besiktas facing some financial problems, they may bite the bullet and sell the midfielder to West Ham.
