The Birmingham-based club have been long-term admirers of Rashica, with their interest in the 24-year-old dating back to the 2018/19 campaign.

Aston Villa offered Werder Bremen €30m for the Kosovo international’s services in 2019, but could not strike a deal as the German club held out for a fee of €50m.

Though the Villans rekindled their interest and were in a three-way battle with RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen for Rashica last summer, the winger ended up staying put at Werder Bremen.

Despite failing with moves for Rashica in the past, Villa have continued to be linked with the player and could take advantage of a relegation clause in his contract with Werder Bremen.

According to German magazine Kicker, Rashica has a relegation clause in his contract with Werder Bremen, who have been relegated from the Bundesliga, and can be signed for €15m this summer.

Triggering the clause would see Dean Smith’s side securing the Kosovan’s services for half the sum their offered Werder Bremen just two years ago.

However, it remains to be seen if Aston Villa will try to negotiate a lower fee should they decide to proceed with their interest in Rashica this summer, especially considering he only has one more year remaining on his deal.

Rashica scored three goals and provided five assists from 24 Bundesliga appearances for the German outfit in the season gone by.
