Portsmouth star Gavin Whyte pointed out that Bristol Rovers made Pompey’s life tough in the opening fixture of this season and warned his team-mates that the Mem is a tough place to visit.
After three straight away games, Bristol Rovers are set to return to the Mem on Boxing Day to take on League One table toppers Portsmouth.
Early in the season, the Gas’ came close to snatching three points from Portsmouth at Fratton Park as an injury-time strike by Kusini Yengi ended that game 1-1.
Whyte stated that Bristol Rovers are a good side and admits that the Gas’ made their life hard in the Fratton Park fixture on the opening day of the League One this season.
He admitted that the Mem is a tough place for away sides but stated that they are confident going into the game against Matt Taylor’s side.
“Fleetwood made life tough for us and we needed to be better”, Whyte told Portsmouth’s official side.
“We don’t expect it to get any easier on Boxing Day, but we’re confident we can go there and get a result.
“To do that we’ll need to play the way we have been in recent weeks – we’ve done well at home and on the road.
“Bristol Rovers are a decent side and I can remember that they made it tough for us on the opening day of the season.
“I’ve played there on a few occasions before and always found it a tough place to visit, but we can go with confidence.”
Portsmouth are unbeaten against Bristol Rovers in their last four fixtures and Taylor’s side will be eager to change that record on Boxing Day.
