Former Norwich City star Leon Barnett believes that Canaries star Grant Hanley has enough experience to know how to keep himself match fit.

The 32-year-old centre-back joined Norwich in the summer of 2017 and has helped them achieve two promotions to the Premier League since then.

Hanley missed the majority of the first half of this season due to an Achilles injury he received last season and on Boxing Day, he made his first appearance of the campaign as he came on in the second half against West Bromwich Albion.

Barnett believes that Hanley has to show mental toughness to keep himself fit after coming back from a injury which kept him out of action for a long time.

And the former Norwich star pointed out that the centre-back’s CV shows that the player has enough experience under his belt, both for clubs and Scotland, to know how to keep his fitness up.

When asked whether Hanley has to be mentally strong to keep himself fit at his age, Barnett said on BBC Radio Norfolk: “Yes, definitely.

“I think he has the experience; I mean, some of the clubs he has been at, I don’t have to name them all, but he has more than enough experience and played enough games to understand. obviously at international level as well.

“I think he knows what to do to get himself to match fitness.

“You have to be mentally strong and he has shown his qualities today.”

Norwich are set to take on Millwall on Friday and Hanley will be hoping to get into David Wagner’s starting line-up for that game.
