France coach Didier Deschamps has insisted that Aston Villa winger Moussa Diaby’s call-up to the national team squad will hopefully push him to do everything in his power to be in the squad for Euro 2024.

The 24-year-old winger has been a key player in an Aston Villa squad who are trying to finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Diaby has nine caps to his name for France but has not been part of the squads for the last year or so.

The winger has been named in the France squad that will take on Germany and Chile in international friendlies later this month.

Deschamps believes the selection will give the winger the motivation to push himself even harder and try to be part of the squad for the summer’s European Championship.

He stressed that Diaby remains a quality player and now he has the opportunity to make the most of being in the national team.

Deschamps said in a press conference: “This can give him a lot of hope and hope to do everything to be in the squad for May.

“There are players who are regulars and others, depending on the circumstances.

“He has not lost his qualities, he is capable of being decisive.

“This is the opportunity for him to make the most of this selection.”

Diaby has a league game against West Ham to think about on Sunday before he can link up with the France squad.
