Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he only expects midfielder Jack Wilshere to return to action in October.

The Gunners were without the 20-year-old schemer for the whole of last season and have been anxiously anticipating his return to first team action. Indeed, Wenger insists that having Wilshere to call upon for 2012/13, along with Abou Diaby, will be akin to signing a new player.

But the English giants will have to wait for a little longer to see the talented pass-master back in an Arsenal shirt.

“Hopefully we will get Wilshere back playing for October”, said Wenger at a press conference on Arsenal’s pre-season Asian tour.

"With Abou Diaby returning it will be like signing two new players. The squad will be strong and competitive”, added the Frenchman.

Wilshere is viewed as a vital component in a successful Arsenal side and his importance only increased in light of Cesc Fabregas and Sami Nasri’s departures last summer.

But Wenger is determined not to rush the youngster back and will ease him back into first team action.

Arsenal’s loss is also England’s loss, with Wilshere ruled out of Roy Hodgson’s team for the country’s two World Cup qualifiers in September, against Moldova and Ukraine respectively.
