Former Belgium and Newcastle United defender Philippe Albert believes that in-demand Standard Liege striker Michy Batshuayi could prove to be the perfect replacement for Christian Benteke for Belgium coach Marc Wilmots.

Benteke has been ruled out of this summer's World Cup, along with the remainder of the season, after suffering an Achilles tendon injury while in training with club side Aston Villa.

It is a big, big blow for Belgium, who had been counting on Benteke to make an impact at this summer's World Cup.

Albert feels that the Red Devils need not lose out though and by including Batshuayi, who has been prolific with Standard Liege this term, they will have a player with similar qualities.

Albert told RTBF: "Michy Batshuayi has the ideal profile.

"He has a bit of the same style as Christian Benteke, and has the qualities to troubleshoot that position if something happens to [Romelu] Lukaku."

Batshuayi, who is still awaiting his senior Belgium debut, has scored 18 goals in 29 games for Standard Liege so far this season.
