Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel’s agent has confirmed that the club have offered a new three-year contract to his client.

The defender’s current deal runs out at the end of next season and there is speculation that the Slovakian international might want to seek a new challenge in his career next summer.

Skrtel continues to play a major role in Liverpool’s backline and is one of the most crucial members of Brendan Rodgers’ squad at Anfield.

With the Reds struggling to get into the Champions League again, Rodgers is desperate to secure the defender’s future at the club and Karol Ksonto, Skrtel’s agent, said that the Reds have indeed offered a new deal to the Slovakian.

The player’s agent said that Skrtel is evaluating Liverpool’s new contract offer and told Radio Kiss Kiss: “I can confirm Liverpool have offered a new three-year contract and the player is assessing the situation with the club as it is a good offer.”

However, there has been speculation that Napoli are keen to sign the Slovakian defender this summer but Ksonto said that he is not convinced that his client would want to leave Liverpool especially after their contract renewal offer.

“I do not know what will happen. I do not know whether Napoli will contact us with an offer for Skrtel but anything can happen in football.

“However, I cannot see this happening since Liverpool have offered a three-year contract to my client.”

Skrtel joined Liverpool from Zenit St. Petersburg in January 2008 and has made 290 appearances for the Reds.
