Leeds United's pursuit of Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt is still alive, despite little progress being made towards a deal.

The Scotland international spent the majority of last season on loan at Leeds after falling out of favour at Sunderland.

The Black Cats are willing to allow him to leave this summer, but are demanding a fee for his release, while Leeds want to welcome Bridcutt on a permanent basis.

Any talk of a deal being done has gone quiet, but according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the potential transfer is still alive, despite the limited progress.

Bridcutt has also been linked with another Championship side in the shape of Aston Villa, but there are not yet any signs Roberto Di Matteo's men are pushing to get a deal over the line.

The midfielder benefited from regular first team football at Elland Road last term and even forced his way back into the Scotland squad through the weight of his performances.

And Bridcutt is claimed to want to return to Leeds, where he had an enjoyable spell, despite the Yorkshire giants only being able to manage a finish of 13th in the Championship standings.
