The Black Cats’ five-match unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Cardiff City on Sunday after they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home.
Now Mowbray’s side, who are fifth in the league table, will be determined to bounce back in their next game against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Under Xisco Munoz, Sheffield Wednesday are at the bottom of the league table and Mowbray believes that the Owls will be keen to change their circumstances against Sunderland on Friday.
The Black Cats boss pointed out that Sheffield Wednesday have a huge and passionate fanbase and stated his team will look to make life difficult for Munoz’s side when they meet.
“Sheffield [Wednesday] are fighting for their lives at the moment”, Mowbray told Sunderland’s media.
“They are having some results that they will want to improve on.
“So we know that they will be right up for the next game and they have a big stadium, big crowd, emotional and passionate supporters.
“We have to go there and make life difficult for them and see if we can dominate and see if we can find a way to win.
“We have been doing that okay over recent weeks and so we will go there with the belief and the confidence that we can go to Sheffield and win.
“That said, we know it is going to be tough.”
Sunderland have not won at Hillsborough since January 2007 and Mowbray’s side may have a tough task on their hands to change that.
