Sheffield Wednesday will not sanction the exits of Michael Smith and Lee Gregory until they have secured reinforcements, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Owls boss Danny Rohl has sparked survival hopes with his side’s form in recent weeks and they also progressed in the FA Cup on Saturday by putting Cardiff City to the sword.

Rohl’s men have now won their last three games on the bounce, but the German has been clear about his desire for signings in this month’s transfer window.

There are also expected to be outgoings, with forwards Smith and Gregory attracting interest from clubs.

The future of Smith is unclear, while Gregory looks more certain to go, but Sheffield Wednesday will not let either player leave before they have brought in fresh faces.

Rohl does not want to reduce his options at a crucial time of the season.

The Owls have a tough trip to promotion chasing Southampton on the agenda next in the Championship, before they return to home comforts with a visit from Coventry City.

Rohl’s side have now moved to within just three points of safety following their recent run of form, a run which taken over the last nine games is the fifth best in the division.
