Carlisle United manager Paul Simpson expects exciting forward play from Sunderland loanee Jack Diamond though he admits that it will take a few games for the 24-year-old to regain match sharpness.
The League One side confirmed on Thursday that they had roped in the Sunderland academy graduate on loan for the remainder of the season.
The move gave a lifeline to the winger, who has been missing from action since March last year.
Simpson though has full faith in the player’s fitness levels and believes that it will only be a matter of time before Diamond gets up to pace with the rest of the team.
Once that is done Diamond will be able to create and score goals for Carlisle and also add exciting forward play to the team, the 57-year-old believes.
“I’m delighted to get a player of Jack’s ability into the building”, Simpson told his club’s official website.
“He’s a player who we hope will come in, create and score goals for us and bring some exciting forward play to the group.
“Jack has had a long period without playing games but his fitness levels are excellent.
“It will take him a few games to get up to match pace but I’m excited to see him be part of our team.”
Carlisle are currently sitting second bottom in the League One table and facing a battle to survive.
