Crystal Palace failed with an attempt to lure Julen Lopetegui to Selhurst Park before working out deal with Oliver Glasner, it has been claimed in Spain.

Glasner has signed his contract with Crystal Palace and is set to become the new manager at Selhurst Park soon.

Roy Hodgson is expected to step down on medical grounds after he was hospitalised on Thursday after falling ill during training.

However, Glasner was not the only manager whom Crystal Palace contacted as the Eagles also offered the job to Lopetegui.

However, according to Spanish daily AS, the 57-year-old rejected the approach from the south London club.

He is keen to return to the Premier League following his departure from Wolves last year but Crystal Palace did not appeal to him.

The former Spain coach wants an ambitious project and is waiting for the right offer to arrive on his table.

He has been linked with a move to Italy where AC Milan are likely to look for a new manager at the end of the season.
