Xabi Alonso would lean towards Liverpool over Bayern Munich if he leaves Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season, it has been claimed in Germany.

Alonso is the favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp once he leaves Liverpool at the end of the ongoing campaign.

There are claims that the Reds have already been in touch with the Spaniard’s camp over a return to Merseyside as their new manager.

His Bayer Leverkusen side are now favourites to win the Bundesliga, but Bayern Munich are also working behind the scenes to try and edge ahead of Liverpool in the race to snap up the former midfielder.

The German champions are almost certain to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season and Alonso is their top target, but according to Fussball Transfers, Liverpool have the edge for now.

It has been claimed that if Alonso leaves Leverkusen at the end of the season, he would prefer a move to Anfield.

For the moment, his inclination is towards Liverpool over Bayern Munich if he leaves his current club.

Leverkusen are confident that the Spaniard will stay as Alonso is already knee-deep in planning the squad for next season.
