Russell Martin has indicated that his Southampton team need to be prepared to face more motivated sides as they are being seen as a big scalp in the Championship.
Southampton’s long unbeaten run in the Championship came to a screeching halt at St. Mary’s on Tuesday night when they lost 2-1 to Hull City.
The result saw them drop down to fourth in the league table but they are still just two points off second place, which is currently occupied by an in-form Leeds United side.
Martin stressed that it is hard to predict how teams are going to set up against Southampton in the coming games and Hull were a very different challenge for his players.
However, he admitted that his players need to prepare themselves to face take on teams who are highly motivated to beat them, though he insisted he means no disrespect to opponents.
The Saints boss said in a press conference: “I can’t sit here and say we know exactly how teams are going to come and play against us.
“Hull were very different to the week before.
“We have to accept that sometimes it is a big scalp to beat us.
“I don’t mean that disrespectfully.”
Southampton will hope to get back to winning ways when they take on strugglers Millwall at St. Mary’s on Saturday.
