Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is unlikely to now join Genoa due to ‘unrealistic salary expectations’, according to Sky Sports News.
De Gea has been without a club for over a year and there have been question marks over whether he would play again.
It recently emerged though that a move to Italian side Genoa was in the works for the Spanish shot-stopper.
He appeared to be set for Genoa and it was thought the deal was advanced.
The ex-Manchester United man will not be joining Genoa though.
It is suggested that ‘unrealistic salary expectations’ on the part of De Gea have led to Genoa calling the deal off.
Genoa are now to focus on other goalkeeping targets.
Whether De Gea rethinks his salary demands in order to bring Genoa back to the table remains to be seen.
De Gea is set to turn 34 years old later this year.
