Matt Taylor is of the view that Bristol Rovers cannot afford to get overawed by what clubs like Birmingham City are doing in the market and stressed the need to focus on their own plans to help the club grow.
Birmingham City, who were relegated from the Championship last season, shocked by paying League One record transfer money to Fulham for Jay Stansfield, amid a busy summer of arrivals at St Andrew’s.
Bristol Rovers also experienced a busy summer transfer window, but they mainly focused on signing young talents.
Taylor emphasised that Bristol Rovers have to understand where they stand right now and believes that they cannot let themselves get overawed by the likes of Birmingham City spending big money in the transfer window.
He stressed the need for the Gas’ to follow their plan, which was decided at the end of last season to help the club grow and their develop stadium and training facilities, with a good academy.
“We must understand where we are and almost do our work in isolation for what we can achieve and not get carried away with the league”, Taylor told Bristol Rovers’ in-house media.
“Everyone would have seen the headlines in terms of what Birmingham have done and what other teams have brought in.
“We can’t be distracted by that, overawed by that or affected by that in any way.
“Stay true to the plan we put in place at the end of last season and keep working towards the bigger picture of building this club alongside the stadium, the training ground, this good group of young players and the academy to make it a brighter future for all.”
Bristol Rovers are aiming to get promoted to the Championship this season and all eyes will be on Taylor and his boys to see whether they can achieve their goal at the end of the campaign.
They are due to visit Birmingham City in the middle of December.
