Turkish giants Galatasaray are thought to be ready to test Arsenal’s resolve to keep hold of Russian midfielder Andrei Arshavin.

The Istanbul-based team appear prepared to pay up to €16M for the former Zenit St. Petersburg schemer and sign Arshavin to a lucrative contract at the Turk Telekom Arena.

Galatasaray are close to signing another Arsenal player, full back-cum-midfielder Emmanuel Eboue, for £4M and are thought to have used to opportunity to express an interest in Arshavin.

While the Gunners would undoubtedly be uncertain over letting Arshavin leave the Emirates as the clock ticks down to the start of the new English Premier League season, a bid of €16M is substantial for a 30-year-old.

For Arshavin too a switch to Istanbul would present him with an opportunity for one last big pay day.

Should there be any indication that Arshavin is available however, a raft of Russian Premier League sides can be expected to quickly declare an interest, led by the midfielder’s old club Zenit.
