Rennes are eyeing a swoop for Aston Villa midfielder Jean Makoun as they plan for life without Yann M’Vila.
The Ligue 1 outfit expect to lose M’Vila this summer and the France international will be missed for the 2012/13 campaign.
And this is causing Rennes to look at players who could potentially replace the defensive midfielder.
This has led to Rennes to seriously consider Cameroon man Makoun.
The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at Greek giants Olympiacos, but has now returned to parent side Aston Villa.
Makoun’s future at the English club is unclear and an offer from Rennes may prove tempting.
The midfielder has experience in French football, having turned out for Lille and Lyon before joining Aston Villa in the 2011 winter transfer window.
