Rennes sporting director Pierre Dreossi has dismissed suggestions that Frederic Antonetti might be sacked for the club’s poor start to the season.
At present Rennes have picked up just one win from their opening five Ligue 1 games, losing the other four clashes to leave the side with only three points and sitting third bottom in the table.
For a side that finished sixth last season and has ambitions of European football once again, that is not good enough.
Antonetti’s side lost 2-1 at home to Lorient yesterday, extending their worryingly poor form – although Dreossi is not in the mood to consider changes in the dugout.
"There will be many wins and a time when we return to a level which is more in line with our goals", insisted the sporting director.
"Have I spoken to Antonetti? Yes. We discussed the game. Is he under threat? No. Today we must find solutions together and have confidence in this team, whether that is the coach, the players, or the entire club, which put in a good performance last season."
Rennes face a tough trip to Toulouse in their next Ligue 1 match, before a break of sorts with the Coupe de la Ligue, where they host Nancy.
