Spain head coach Vicente del Bosque has explained that his team are in a better shape than before, and they are looking forward to heading to Brazil for the FIFA Confederations Cup, starting on Saturday.

La Roja won 2-0 against the Republic of Ireland in New York yesterday in a final friendly prior to the start of the tournament. Second half goals from Valencia striker Roberto Soldado and Chelsea attacking midfielder Juan Mata gave Del Bosque’s side the victory.

The European and world champions kick-off their Confederations Cup campaign against 2011 Copa America winners Uruguay on Sunday.

"Physically we are better – and, in fact, better now than when we came. We head to Brazil in good shape”, Del Bosque told FIFA.

“There is a good atmosphere in the team and the players are relaxed after such an intense season.

"We are confident, but we have to pay attention to all our opponents in the Confederations Cup, because they are all good sides."

The 2010 FIFA World Cup Winners are grouped with Uruguay, Tahiti and Nigeria in Group B.

The former Real Madrid tactician also insisted that he has a difficult task in choosing a starting eleven, as every player in the squad features in the starting line-up for their respective clubs.

"Everyone in this squad is very good, every player is a regular starter for their respective clubs, and we have a very difficult task in choosing the best players from a great group.

"We have many options and they are all good ones”, he added.
