West Ham chairman David Gold has urged the club’s fans to have patience while a deal is agreed for Liverpool hitman Andy Carroll.

The England international striker spent last season on loan at Upton Park and was well received by the Hammers, with West Ham boss Sam Allardyce making his summer transfer a priority.

But despite Liverpool being willing sellers and Carroll ready to remain at West Ham, the deal is taking some time to push through to full completion.

And Gold has urged patience, emphasising the importance being placed on the transfer by the Hammers.

"The Andy Carroll deal is important to us and equally important to Andy", Gold wrote on his Twitter account.

"We must dot every ‘I’ and cross every ‘t’ we must be patient", he added.

Carroll cost Liverpool £35m to sign from Newcastle in the 2011 January transfer window.

He arrived at the club as a replacement for Fernando Torres, who joined Chelsea for £50m.
