English Premier League side Southampton are in talks with the representatives of Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, after agreeing a fee in the region of £12m for the player, according to the BBC.

The 22-year-old Kenya international is however yet to agree personal terms with the Saints.

Wanyama joined the Celts in the summer of 2011. He moved to the Scottish giants for a now-bargain-looking fee of £900,000 from Beerschot.

The Nairobi-born defensive midfielder was highly rated for his performances last season, as the Hoops achieved a domestic double – bagging the Scottish Premier League as well as the Scottish Cup.

Wanyama clocked up 47 appearances under Neil Lennon last season, scoring nine times, as well as assisting on four occasions.

His contract at Celtic Park runs until June 2015 and Lennon revealed in October that the player had rejected an extension with the club.

He has long been tipped for a move following his display for the Celts against Barcelona in the Champions League group stage last season.

Wanyama scored one of the goals for Lennon’s side in that match, as Celtic won 2-1 at Celtic Park.

The player is also being tracked by newly promoted Welsh side Cardiff City, who will play in the English top flight in the 2013/14 season.
