Ibrox giants Rangers have snapped up Scottish full-back Richard Foster on a two-year deal, which will take effect from 1st September, after the club’s transfer embargo is lifted.

The former Scotland Under-21 international was released from Championship side Bristol City at the end of the 2012/13 season, and he becomes the seventh free agent to join the Gers this summer.

Foster joins goalkeeper Cammy Bell, defender Steven Smith, midfielders Nicky Law and Arnold Peralta, as well as forwards Jon Daly and Nicky Clark, at the club.

The former Aberdeen player played for the Light Blues in the 2010/11 season on a season-long loan spell from the Dons, where he played between 2003 and 2012.

He also lifted the Scottish Premier League title with Rangers at the end of that season.

Foster clocked up 30 appearances in the Championship with Bristol City last season, as the club lost their battle to survive in the second tier of English football.

The Robins will play in League One in the upcoming season.

Foster made 24 appearances in his last outing with Rangers, and he is looking forward to adding to that tally as Ally McCoist’s side start their campaign in the Scottish third tier in the upcoming season.
