Real Madrid goalkeeper and Spanish international Iker Casillas has finally revealed his thoughts on last season, admitting that it "hurt" him the "worst" when he was left out of his club’s line-up after 14 years of consistently getting himself in the starting eleven.
Casillas, 32, previously boasting a near 100% attendance record in Los Blancos’ first team, made only a total 19 league appearances last season, losing his post to Diego Lopez for much of the campaign due to a hand injury.
The Santiago Bernabeu icon effectively missed the whole second half of his club’s campaign, spending time either on the bench or entirely out of the match line-up since January.
His predicament will no doubt be blamed on more than his hand injury, with tensions reaching breaking point as to his relationship with then-manager Jose Mourinho.

With the Portuguese tactician now plying his trade with his old club Chelsea, Casillas has moved to spill all, telling Spain’s Radio COPE: "[Last season] was the worst year of my life because I’ve been injured.
"To be out for four months after playing consistently for fourteen years is very hard. To me what hurts more is that we failed to win [the league title]", the goalkeeper added.
Casillas went on to say that he even reached a point of pondering a departure from his club, saying: "At some point it came through my head to just leave Madrid. During my slump I thought it was best to just go, but now I’m happy to be here.
Then, in an effort to preempt what was going to be asked of him next, particularly as to why he kept his silence until now, the veteran custodian merely said, "I’ve bitten my tongue several times for the good of the club."
