Claudio Pizarro celebrated his return to Bayern Munich’s pre-season training yesterday by penning a one-year extension to his contract at the Allianz Arena.

The Peruvian’s deal was set until 2014, but Bayern Munich have reaffirmed their faith in the 34-year-old striker by committing for an additional year.

Pizarro, who first joined the treble champions in 2001, played a key role in Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga triumph – despite small injury breaks – where he notched six goals in 20 games.

His appearances in the DFB Pokal and the Champions League were somewhat limited, but he still managed a hat-trick as Bayern Munich thrashed Lille 6-1 in the latter’s group stage.

"I am 34 and nothing better could happen to me than to sign another contract with Bayern Munich", Pizarro told the club’s official website.

And he is excited about a future at the club that includes former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola as manager.

"What happens in a year, I cannot say today. But I feel very good and I want to play football as long as possible. I am convinced that together we will have a good year."
