Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has explained that defensive rock Thiago Silva is going to stay with the French giants next season, as he is one of the pillars of the club.

The Brazil skipper has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish heavyweights Barcelona this summer, and the Spanish side’s director director Toni Freixa has admitted that the Catalan giants are monitoring the situation closely, in case the purchase of the centre-back becomes possible.

Silva arrived at the Parc des Princes last summer from Italian giants AC Milan, for a staggering fee of €42m. He penned a five-year contract with PSG, and subsequently clocked up a total of 34 appearances under former club manager Carlo Ancelotti last season.

The former Fluminense player also scored three times in the 2012/13 season, as the French giants secured their third Ligue 1 title.

Al-Khelaifi has insisted that the defender is “priceless” and is one of PSG’s top players, therefore ruling out selling the player.

"Thiago Silva is one PSG’s great players. He is going to continue with us next season”, the Qatari businessman told French daily Le Parisien.

“He is one of the pillars of the team and gives a lot to the club.”

The president also confirmed that the Brazilian will return to the club between 22nd and 25th July, to start pre-season training.
