Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has written off England's chances during this year's World Cup in Brazil.

Much debate has been had about the Three Lions' chances at the World Cup and concerns still loom over whether the team can emerge from a group containing Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

Barton, a player who is not new to controversies, feels that Roy Hodgson's men don't have self belief and as a result, their chances of World Cup glory are minimal.

"We have no chance at the World Cup", the 31-year-old was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"No one believes we can win it – the manager, the media, the players."

He also feels that it is time for the country to look into the future instead of thinking about the past and going for experience over youth. 

"Is taking a side with [Steven] Gerrard and [Frank] Lampard in it the right thing for English football in the long-term?

"If we select all our best players we are still going to come up short, so I would take a team for the future.

"What I have started to see with Olympians and in other sports is that they create a culture of winning. We don't have that in football", the former Manchester City player added.
