Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has praised Schalke’s battling performance against Chelsea to earn a draw last night.

The German outfit held on to a 1-1 draw against the Blues at Stamford Bridge in a Champions League Group G clash.




Cesc Fabregas opened the scoring in the eleventh minute to give Chelsea the lead, but Huntelaar scored in the 62nd minute to earn a point for Schalke.

The Germans were missing a number of first team regulars last night and the Dutchman admits that initially there was an uncertainty about their performance as a number of players were playing out of position.
 


“A number of players were playing out of position”, Huntelaar told Kicker.

“In the beginning it was evident that there was a sense of uncertainty and that can happen in a young team.”

Huntelaar insisted that Schalke always knew they could get something from Stamford Bridge as long as the game was not beyond them.

However, he lamented the fact that the Germans conceded a soft goal and said that they still need improve on some aspects of their play.

“We always knew we could get something from the game if we managed to stay in it. At some point, there will always be a chance.

“We conceded a stupid goal and this happened last season too. We need to learn to eliminate these mistakes but fortunately we got the opportunity make it up today.”

The other Group G clash between NK Maribor and Sporting Lisbon also ended in a 1-1 draw.
