Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher feels that the Reds’ summer signings still have a lot to prove.

Brendan Rodgers’ men struggled at the start of the season in integrating close season arrivals after a transfer spending spree that exceeded £100m.

The Merseyside giants picked up pace towards the end of last year and went on a 13-match unbeaten run in the Premier League which put them in contention for a spot among the top four, but consecutive losses to Manchester United and Arsenal pegged the Reds’ back.

Liverpool are currently occupying fifth spot in the table, four points behind fourth placed Manchester City and with six rounds of matches to go this season, the Reds’ hopes of qualifying for the Champions League hang in the balance.

In a Q&A on Facebook, Carragher was asked the kind of impact a lack of Champions League football would have on Liverpool. And the former defender replied that qualifying for the elite European tournament would be good for the club.

But he added that last year’s Champions League qualification led to the departure of team’s talisman Luis Suarez and subsequent arrivals haven’t proved their worth yet.

“[It would] be better if we qualify obviously.

“But after qualifying last year we lost our best player and the signings still have a lot to prove!!”
