Wayne Rooney feels his Manchester United side dominated Chelsea, who are set to be Premier League champions, today, when going down to a 1-0 defeat.

Chelsea took the lead in the 38th minute at Stamford Bridge after a good move for the Blues allowed Eden Hazard the space to fire the home side in front.

The Blues quickly dropped deep in the second half and let Manchester United have the ball. The Red Devils had 75 per cent possession to Chelsea's 25 per cent, with the Blues playing as if the away side.

Manchester United brought Angel di Maria and Adnan Januzaj on from the bench, but despite Radamel Falcao and Rooney having chances, could not find a way through a stubborn Chelsea defence.

The Red Devils toiled, however Chelsea saw out the match to claim a 1-0 victory and put one hand on the Premier League title.

In total, Chelsea had just 29 per cent possession playing at home and Rooney believes Manchester United dominated the Blues and on another day would have inflicted a heavy defeat on them.

Rooney told the BBC: "It was a very good performance. We dominated in terms of possession and chances but we didn't take any and it has cost us.

"We have dominated the champions in waiting. It was a good performance from the team.

"On another day we would score three or four goals. We knew we had the players who could dominate. We are proud of the performance.

"Chelsea know how to slow the game down and get the referee on their side, which they did today very well. They have won the game so I am sure they are going to be champions", he concluded.
